1999 International Jaguar Festival
Concours d'Elegance

A rogue member's view

After over two years of doing bodywork on my 1953 XK120 coupe, I finally managed to get it painted in the latter part of this past April. This was right about the time I started hearing about the Jaguar festival, and that it was to be held in Colorado Springs...less than 150 miles from home. This, of course, immediately became a natural goal. Not to have the car done, mind you, but have it make an appearance. I didn't get the interior done, nor the engine bay nor the trunk. I did, however, manage to get the exterior looking almost complete, and it is running great. I was up until about 11:00pm the night before the show installing the bumpers. Up the next morning at 3:00am to get ready...gather a few tools, spray some (but not all) of the dust off the car, and we were on the road by 5:00am hoping to beat the Denver rush hour. We didn't. We followed a friend down, who was towing his XJR15 race car on an open flatbed trailer, pointy end back...so at least we had a good view.

We made it toThe Broadmoor around 8:30. On the way up to the show site (Broadmoor Mountain golf course driving range), I lost a hubcap on the rear. This sounded alarmingly like a driveshaft falling off the rear end, but alas, no damage was done. Cheers to the Jaguar Gods that this happened at 15mph, rather than 70.
I parked her on the lawn in the display only section at the bottom of the hill  and went browsing and hobnobbing about up at the top of the hill...where they do the boogie. I didn't get a whole lot of pictures, but I have assembled what I think are some of my favorite cars and people.

The whole field, though not all the cars are visable. There must have been about 120 Jaguars present. Lots of XKs...what a sight. No less than 7 120 coupes, and perhaps a half dozen 120 roadsters. Not to mention all the 140s, 150s, Etypes, a few older saloons, and a bunch of newer (post 1970) stuff. It really was impressive!

We left the show a little early, so as to try again to beat the rush hour...again we failed. I got lost and ended up taking a lovely tour of downtown Denver. Finally made it home safely at about 6:30pm...tired.
